A Promise Kept

I love cycling. There is nothing quite like the rush of a fast descent, even if the grueling climbs make me question my life choices. For a long time, it was just a hobby that kept me healthy and motivated.

But a hobby doesn't keep you riding year after year. A promise does.

Back on July 4th, 2018, I had a pretty serious biking accident, and it made me want to walk away from the sport entirely. A few months later and still not fully recuperated I was leaving a wedding when a mother noticed the Bike4Chai magnet on my car. She asked if I did the ride, and I openly admitted I was planning to quit.

That was the moment everything changed.

She looked at me and shared that she had lost her own child to cancer. Then, she asked me for a favor I could never turn down: "Please, keep riding for the other children and their families."

I gave her my word that day, and I've kept it ever since.

Every mile I pedal now is for children and their families still fighting. I ride so they know they aren't alone in this battle.
