For Uncle Yoel Z"L

This summer, for the third time, I am excited to take part in Bike4Chai, an exhilarating 100-mile cycling event benefiting the children and families of Chai Lifeline. Riding the past two years has been a tremendous experience. Words cannot convey the feeling that comes from seeing the happiness and joy of children whose lives are full of pain and uncertainty. These are kids who for most of the year have no reason to smile. For two weeks each summer they get to go to a place that transports them to a different world, a world of hope and happiness. We ride for them. We ride to make their lives a little bit easier, a little bit better. We ride to put smiles on the faces of these children and to provide them with a short time of normalcy, of being just like all the other kids.

This year I have decided to dedicate my ride and the money I raise in memory of my beloved Uncle Yoel, Rabbi Yoel Benyowitz Z"L. Uncle Yoel was a person who, in addition to being a tremendous Talmid Chochom and Masmid, was the kind of person who was everybody's friend. From the most distinguished Rabbi to the littlest kid in shul, he greeted everyone with the same warm smile and kind words. He genuinely cared about everyone he knew and always made sure everyone felt that they were important to him. He was a walking Pirkei Avos - he was a living example of how the Sages suggest a person should live his life and treat others. He was taken from us suddenly, far too soon, and he is missed terribly. May this endeavor be a zechus for his holy neshama.

Every mile I ride and every dollar I raise will help support more than two-dozen essential programs for more than 6,000 children and families confronting pediatric illness, crisis, and loss. These services include counseling and case management, meals delivered to hospitals and homes, transportation to medical appointments, emergency financial assistance, insurance advocacy, i-Shine afterschool programming, Big Brothers/Sisters, Project Chai crisis intervention, and Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, Chai Lifeline’s flagship medically-supervised summer programs.

Life for a child with cancer, disability, or other serious illness is grueling. From the moment of diagnosis, Chai Lifeline’s dedicated staff and volunteers are there to provide joy, hope, and unparalleled care throughout the turbulent medical journey.

My objective is to raise $18,000, and I hope you will help me reach this goal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Please contribute generously to this important cause by clicking on the donate button now.
On behalf of the children of Chai Lifeline, thank you for your support.
