MARA-BIKE4CHAI!

Shmuel Ismach | Great Neck, NY

Shmuel Ismach

Hi Everyone!

I know I took a year off, but this shpeil might sound familiar: 180 miles over two days, training for hours early in the AM, hot weather, and... spandex. I’ve done this thing like 6 times already, so you’ve heard what I have to say about this ride, Camp Simcha, and Chai Lifeline.

Over the past couple of years, it’s been hard to find the time to bike. So I’ve been trying to run when I could. After some time, this hobby turned into a "thing." This past year, I was even fortunate to be able to run a half-marathon with Shaarei Tzedek (thanks to those who helped!).

So this summer is different. For a while now, I've had this weird dream (nightmare?) of running the NYC marathon. Yeah. That’s the 26.2 mile run in November all over NYC that causes all that traffic (now you'll have someone specific to blame!).

I can’t really explain it, but I feel like this is the year to make it happen. So in addition to my “normal” fundraiser and training for Bike4Chai, I’m adding an element of difficulty. I asked Chai Lifeline if they would give me a NYC marathon spot in addition to Bike4Chai if I raised JUST a little more money. Unfortunately, they said yes!!

So I’m asking for one donation towards these two pretty big challenges for an organization that works so creatively to provide services for sick and developmentally disabled children and their families.

I hope that none of us ever need to use the many services of Chai Lifeline. I hope we never need Camp Simcha, their crisis or grief teams, their family Shabbatonim or any of their programs and initiatives. Indeed, let's hope that Chai Lifeline needs less and less money for their important work as time goes by.

Thanks for listening,

Shmuel
